Featuring one of the outputs expected by MAB from Biosphere Reserves

Biosphere reserves are expected to  -

  • Create and strengthen partnerships with businesses,
  • Develop and promote markets
  • Develop and promote  fair trade for goods and services in those biosphere reserves.

A good starting point is a listing of goods and services available in the Biosphere Reserve so that partnership, joint schemes and good, local supplier relationship can be established.

Example

In the Crocodile River Reserve – the buffer area east of the Cradle of Humankind - a business forum was established in December 2014.  Among the strategies of the businesses – small and large – it to “look local first”.   Whether the need is for a plumber or plums, the businesses undertake to support other local businesses by preference.  The approach has permeated to local residents who use “Whatsapp” to ask for referrals from local users to local service providers.  A lively exchange of information occurs.

On 23 April 2016 all local suppliers are invited to a “Meet and Greet”.  This opportunity allows participants to pitch for business, network, and provide marketing materials and samples.  The Meet and Greet is hosted by a local conference venue, and coordinated by the business forum.  Contact Michelle atThis email address is being protected from spambots.
