Trish Stewart has started an initiative to clean up Broederstroom.
"Nothing spoils our beautiful countryside quicker than rubbish that has been dumped. It is a thoughtless and irresponsible action," says Trish. "Instead of being despondent and annoyed with the state of affairs, I have decided to do something about it."
Those willing to participate in the clean-up meet every 2nd Saturday of the month at the Broederstroom Post Office. They set out at 8am, and work for only one hour along the Pelindaba Road.
"I would appreciate as many volunteers as possible to join them. We can also look at taking to the street every second week so that there is more flexibility for volunteers to participate."
She has also considered how this project could impact on the unemployed and the poor. Trish hopes to find someone who is willing to provide a meal or sandwiches for volunteers. At a later stage she would like to get bright, eye-catching t-shirts printed for the volunteers, and have more dustbins in the area.
